Job description summary: An Azure focussed Senior FinOps Specialist is required to join a dedicated cloud financial management (FinOps) team to assist with cost optimisation as the company rapidly continues its public cloud journey. The successful candidate will be working with: Application teams at every stage of the application lifecycle to improve cost / performance ratios; Finance and Procurement teams to help simplify complex billing data; and Architecture and Design teams where sharing Microsoft best practice and industrial experience aids key choices and long-term decision making. The work is varied, needing: evidencable technical skills to advise on cloud native services or implement commitment-based savings; analytical skills, to interpret spreadsheets and charts produced by the cloud cost and billing consoles; And interpersonal skills, where communicating complex data in simple terms is essential for all levels of the organisation. Role Purpose The specialist will support application teams review their design ahead of migration to ensure that cloud native services are considered together with commitment-based discounts being purchased appropriately. Application team skillsets vary, so the successful candidate would need to have excellent interpersonal skills to help those less familiar with the cloud while equally supporting highly proficient teams review with expediency. It is essential that the successful candidate have extensive Microsoft Azure experience; be able to write technical design documentation; be familiar with the FinOps foundation's framework especially knowing what is required to achieve "run" maturity and be able to highlight improvements to cost / performance ratios through management of technical resources. Role Responsibilities o Work with application teams to educate and advise on technology usage, specifically to ensure the most appropriate technologies are implemented; commitment-based discounts are considered where required. o Write technical documentation to be followed by staff less experienced. o Support Finance, Account Payable, Vendor Management and Procurement with purchase orders and billing console updates as required. Join Finance related business calls to offer advice if needed. o Work with the platform teams to ensure the Cost Management toolsets and Microsoft Azure billing consoles are configured correctly. o Keep up to date with industry trends so that business stakeholders can be advised how to use the latest services to improve cost / performance ratios. o Use cost management tools to clearly communicate complex analysis of cloud data in simple understandable terms for all levels of the organisation. o Demonstrable eagerness to learn the latest industrial trends and can translate how these services or technologies can improve cost / performance for our business stakeholders. o Use reports to highlight tagging data quality to drive improvements with cost allocation and management reports. Minimum Requirements o Good English language verbal and written communication skills essential. o Ideally, the successful candidate would hold the Microsoft Certified: Azure Expert qualification or Microsoft Certified: Azure Associate with 2+ years industry experience in a large-scale organisation. or o Hold a degree in Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent; be studying toward or hold the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals qualification and have 3+ years' proven Azure experience in a large-scale organisation. o Familiar with the FinOps Foundation framework and understand what it means to reach "run" maturity. o Experience using a public cloud cost management tool. o Understand common financial terms, key drivers, and concepts that Technology, Finance, Procurement, Accounts Payable and Receivable teams use day-to-day is essential
